Prior to the availability of commercially produced threaded rods, most threading was done on-the-job, requiring raw material, threading equipment, dies and know-how.

Pre threaded rod is easy to use. It can be used with standard nuts and washers. They may be used in standard stock lengths or cut to the length required. These pre threaded bars may be cut to length with a metal cutting hacksaw or power band saw. The nut will move easily over clean cut ends. Only minimal burr removal may be required from rough cut ends.
